Mission

Decolonise Architecture is creating a new form of independent media where architecture is no longer a closed conversation, but one that is accessible and open to everyone.

We use digital spaces as platforms for change, covering the issues that shape our cities and the people who design, build and live in them.

Vision

Our vision is a built environment where more people have the knowledge, tools and confidence to shape the places around them.

We work at two levels: developing practical tools that help the industry tackle systemic challenges, and explaining the built environment to the public through clear, engaging storytelling.

Through media, we want to create the spaces that uplift overlooked voices and hold power in architecture to account.

How we started

DA was created in 2020 as a grassroots educational collective driven by a desire for action over awareness.

Disillusioned with media that often favoured spectacle over substance, we started working within universities and institutions to connect architectural ideas with everyday people.

Through workshops, talks and online tools, we developed an approach centred that provides solutions-first responses to systemic challenges in architecture.

Our name

It comes down to one word: Power.
Some have it, most of us don’t.

The impact of building reaches far and wide, yet many ideas and communities have been brushed aside by imbalances in who gets to shape the built world.

For us, decolonising architecture means challenging those power dynamics, creating space for different voices, and allowing stories and ideas to stand on their own terms.
