Social Issues Introduce lectures discussing architectural response to social issues to support Design Studio, preparing students who may choose socially conscious projects for their independent thesis. World Architecture Develop the scope of the History and Theory module to explore architecture around the world, including the impacts of colonisation and globalisation on the architectural canon. Wider Curriculum Work with students through the Decolonise Architecture collective to lobby the ARB/RIBA to make world architecture an essential part of the curriculum. Staff Representation Work with groups to hire a more diverse body of visiting critics, tutors, and guest lecturers. At University level, work with students to review recruitment policy and procedure for all staff. Resources Support the library in increasing resources on global architecture and architects. Publish student essays through the library to create an accessible resource. Student Representation Work with charities and support organisations to encourage and facilitate disadvantaged students to apply to architecture school, reducing the current elitism that surrounds the profession. Training and Workshops Mandatory diversity workshops for permanent and visiting staff to tackle subconscious bias and prejudiced comments which make students feel alienated or unwelcome. Expect staff to recognise and challenge inappropriate behaviour from their colleagues. Reviews Introduce an anonymous post-review feedback system where students feel safe to raise concerns about inappropriate conduct or comments, expanding on the current efforts to make reviews less confrontational. Presentation Ensure architecture is respectfully and accurately presented in the historical and political context that allowed it to be built, such as war, colonialism and slavery. Other Publications
